Old Vintages - Curiosities, not to drink!

While full cases of Premium and top end wines (in particular en Primeur Bordeaux) are stored in proper conditions - think temperature controlled warehouses etc - not all wines are so lucky!
I remember finding an old mixed case of interesting wines in my mother's garage, left over I presume from when she owned the Wine company in The North etc. We had a couple on display in the Blackrock shop, including an 1967 Meursault Ropiteau (pictured below) that we sold to a customer, stating clearly that it was a novelty item, sold as it was his friend's year of birth and unlikely to be drinkable. Memory says we charged him €10!

The following day, he returned looking for a refund as it was 'corked'.  He then tried to buy the last bottle of the 1967 Meursault in the window, which was in worse condition! He got his refund as it just wasn't likely that the remaining bottle would be drinkable!

So, when selling an old bottle for a special occasion, we need to know where it's been! We sold some 1990s vintages earlier this year as we knew how they'd been stored, but that's still not a 100% guarantee that it will be in good condition when eventually (if ever) opened.

C'est la Vie!

Yes, we do have some 'display' bottles hanging around  - used in windows, or just not stored in such a way as to guarantee their condition.   If any of those listed below are of interest, email info@webwines.ie and, while we will make you pay a nominal fee, we'll donate it to charity!!
