Pouilly Fumé 2025 Jean Colin, Loire, France
Minimum order: 6 bottles. We sell in cases of 6 or 12 to ensure you get the best deal, best price and best service.
The Jean Colin Pouilly Fumé 2025 is, of course, 100% Sauvignon Blanc*, aged on it's lees in stainless steel tanks. On the other side of the Loire river from Sancerre, it offers different aromas and flavours etc as the soil is generally far flintier.
It shows first with a lovely light golden colour and a fresh and rather subtle fruity nose, balanced with the characteristic notes of gun-flint (from the flinty soil).
This wine combines freshness and roundness with a nice lasting finish.
It is a little rounder and fuller bodied than it's sibling Sancerre.

All our wines from Jean Colin have a wax seal over the cork so they look great! But a tip! Don't try to cut the wax off - just screw your (quality) corkscrew/waiter's friend through the wax and into the cork - the wax will crack and fall off! Too much work if you try anything else!
What is the difference between Sancerre & Pouilly Fume?
Well, they are 10km apart on the map, with Sancerre on the left bank of the Loire river and Pouilly on the right bank. Highlighting the differences requires more than a paragraph here so suffice to say:
Sancerre typically has a lean body and vibrant acidity, with refreshing and crisp citrusy flavours alongside notes of green grass.
Pouilly-Fumé, on the other hand, boasts a medium body, with flavours leaning towards more stone fruits and apples, sometimes with floral or smoky notes.
Their differing flavour profiles derive from several factors, including the type of soil and winemaking decisions.
The soil in Pouilly is generally more flinty, giving a fuller 'smoky' nuance, hence the 'Fumé' label.
We shouldn't forget Menetou Salon, Quincy etc!! And that Sancerre also produces Red & Rosé wines .... Maybe I will write a book!
*Pouilly Fumé is always 100% Sauvignon Blanc with no Red or Rosé option. The lesser known (in this country anyway) Pouilly-sur-Loire generally also contains some 'Chasselas' grapes. Chasselas is a Swiss varietal that - it is believed - was first cultivated in the Loire to supply the table grape market in Paris.

NOTE!! Current vintage of Pouilly Fumé Jean Colin is 2025 but we used up the remaining cases that were marked 2024! Apologies in advance, but no matter what the box says on the outside - it's 2025 Vintage inside!
