This 100% Tinta Fina (Tempranillo) wine comes from vineyards with a minimum of 800 metres, with clay-limestone soils. The vines are aged between 20 and 40 years old.
The 2022 Vintage, officially classified by the Regulatory Authority as 'very good' was difficult as rainfall was about half the average, and temperatures did fluctuate wildly (by normal standards). What we did get was full fruit and ripe tannins (and high alcohol). It is aged for 12 months in 225 litre wooden barrels (of different aging) to offer us a lovely soft but rich and intense wine.
It shows in the glass with a big deep red cherry colour, and on the nose it offers ripe red fruits, liquorice and subtle spices. In the mouth it opens big and full - red fruits, ripe tannins and that touch of liquorice again. It shows as very balanced with admirable acidity (in a difficult year) and lasts all the way through to a long fresh finish.
The tannins are riper than previous vintages so it will drink well in the short to medium term - but that won't be a problem for us, sure it won't - we gave up putting wines away for 20 years etc during the last recession!
