This top rated White Rioja is a blend of Viura (70%) and Maturana Blanca (30%) from a selection of Palacios vineyards for the Viura (70 year old vines between 500-600 metres ASL) and their high altitude Vineyard at 800 metres in Nalda for the Maturana. This blend of vineyards and the differing soils in each, gives rise to this lovely fresh, structured, full bodied wine.

There is a lot going on both in aroma & flavour!
A nice intense nose of baked apple, balsamic notes with a slight minerality in the background. Fresh and balanced on the palate with flavours of apples and pears. A long finish shows up the apple/pears again with a hint of spice.This is a steal!!

The critics scores for Nivarius Edicion Limitada are silly for a wine of this price!

And of course, it's a great vintage! 2019 started with a cold wet winter, cool spring and a hot & dry summer led to one of the best vintages in recent years.

To be honest, this is my 'go to' white wine!   Any visitors whose wine preferences I don't know get served the Nivarius Edition Limitada - cos it always hits the spot!

Nivarius Edicion Limitada is a really easy introduction to the wines of Palacios, the only specialist white wine winery in Rioja (they do produce excellent red wines also, but from separate vineyards). 

The Palacios project is really interesting (never mind the wines being fantastic) in that they sourced lots of small vineyards in high altitude areas to develop their wines, but then discovered old vines and also old grape varietals. They now produce wine from 70-90 year old vines that they have nurtured and invested in :
