Albarino Besada shows a clean straw yellow colour and then offers a very elegant nose - intense nuances of fresh fruit with a citrus background and saline aromas. It is crisp and clean on the palate and finishes clean, minerally and fresh.
But what makes it different - and far better in our view - is that it spent 5 months on its lees so it shows with a mouth filling richness on the palate, and it lasts and lingers.
This is not a bone dry, austere version, it is crisp clean and full bodied on the palate.
Albarino is a very popular now (barely known in Ireland at the turn of the century) but there are differences in styles within Rias Baixas and the wider Galicia area. It is a lovely fresh alternative to Sauvignon Blanc - a cleaner crisper style - more minerally - that's great with seafood, white meats etc. Did you know that Ireland is one of the top 10 importers of Albarino world wide? And the size of us!
