This Domaine produced Chateauneuf is from 45 year old vines on the slopes of the Rhone river. It's a blend of  60% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 15% Mourvèdre and 5% Muscardin. 

It offers an inviting bouquet of ripe dark cherries and blackberries. In the mouth it is juicy and balanced, with ripe, round tannins and finishes long and warm, with hints of liquorice and spices. 

This Domaine bottled Chateauneuf is full-bodied and opulent without being overly concentrated or needlessly heavy!

Elegantly oaky with aromas of spices, sesame, dark cherries and dark berries, the 2023 Chateauneuf du Pape possesses a medium- to full-bodied, layered and round palate with a fleshy, charming core of fruit, velvety tannins and a long, delicate and ethereal finish.

The rules of Chateauneuf allow growers to use 13 different grape varieties (including some whites) but most wines are dominated with Grenache and Syrah with support from Mourvèdre.  I did meet one top producer who grows all 13 varietals - some in minuscule quantities - just to claim that all 13 are in her house Chateauneuf!  Just a bit of fun, she said, quantities are too low of the lesser varietals to have any effect on the wine!
