Finca La Esperilla is a new release from the vineyard that is the birthplace of Proelio. 
It all started here in 1974 when the vineyard was planted, as was the style then, with a mixture of grape varieties - Tempranillo, Garnacha, Mazuelo & Graciano.
The Palacios project started in 1999 when Javier Palacios took over and created Proelio with a  commitment to preserving the old, high-altitude vineyards of different areas of Rioja. 
And this vineyard is definitely one!

Finca La Esperilla is a 'field blend', a wine made from grapes of different varietals which are planted together in the same vineyard - so getting a lovely blend from fully mature vines (70 years!) in a fantastic high altitude vineyard, 650m above sea level! It's 55% Tempranillo, 33% Garnacha, 7% Mazuelo and 3% Graciano. 

This first vintage, 2023, was a very dry vintage but a cool start to Summer, followed by a very dry but slightly warmer late summer, giving us exceptionally healthy vines which were all harvested manually. 

It is medium bodied with a cherry red colour. The nose is intense and fresh - forest fruits and traces of wild herbs. In the mouth it is lively and fresh with great structure and intensity, and it finishes crisp and fruity, with flinty mineral notes.
