Minimum order: 6 bottles. We sell in cases of 6 or 12 to ensure you get the best deal, best price and best service.
Made with 100% chardonnay grapes, as per all Macon Lugny, Drouhin Les Crays is a bright and expressive wine, offering yellow fruits (lemon, peach, apricot - not banana!) and golden apple notes. It offers fresh lively fruit supported by a mid-weight palate, a crisp and straightforward mouthfeel with a mineral finish. It is warm and surprisingly rich and finishes long and clean.
Macon Lugny brings back great memories of our early Blackrock shop days - when every second customer ordered Macon Lugny and Fleurie for every dinner party! Peoples palates are a little more diverse nowadays!
While Macon is probably the warmest part of Burgundy, these vineyards benefit from their westerly aspect so helping to retain their freshness.
Les Crays is a specific vineyard supplying all the grapes for this wine - what the wine trade calls a 'lieu Dit' (named place), unlike a standard Macon Lugny wherein the grapes can come from anywhere (or all vineyards!) in the appellation.
Did you know that the origin of the word « Crays » is from the Celtic term 'cracos' meaning 'stony hill' - and is generally associated to the best vineyards in each appellation , such as Les Crais and Les Cras in Marsannay, Les Crâs in Vougeot, Les Crays in Monthelie, Les Criots in Meursault, Les Cras in Beaune, Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet in Chassagne-Montrachet, etc.
Every day is a learning day!!
While Drouhin does own vineyards all over Burgundy (unlike other famous Macon producers who own practically no vineyards) this wine is made under contract by other vignerons. Drouhin oversees the vineyards to ensure the grapes meet their exacting standards - they have a great reputation and are determined to keep it!!
