We don't think of Menetou as a cheaper version of Sancerre as it has it's completely own terroir and flavour profiles - it is cheaper definitely but not cheap!

Situated about 25KM South-West of Sancerre, it also features Kimmeridgian limestone soils like Sancerre but with a generally higher concentration of clay, giving a different flavour profile*  It is recognisable also for the 'chicken ears' - the thousands of remains of small oyster shells that litter the landscape. 

The Menetou 2025 from Jean Colin offers a suave and delicate option - it shows first with a fruity nose with notes of lemon zest and opens on the palate fresh and fruity, more rounded than Sancerre although it also finishes with a long, clean mineral finish, but a little less concentrated.  It is more approachable than Sancerre whilst young and a great alternative or for a change.  

Like Sancerre, but not Pouilly Fume, Menetou Salon is also available in Red and Rosé options but here at webwines.ie, we currently only list this white wine (100% Sauvignon Blanc)

All our wines from Jean Colin have a wax seal over the cork so they look great! But a tip! Don't try to cut the wax off - just screw your (quality) corkscrew/waiter's friend through the wax and into the cork - the wax will crack and fall off! Too much work if you try anything else!

*Menetou v Sancerre
Sancerre is known for its high acidity, flinty minerality, and crisp citrus notes.
Menetou-Salon is considered slightly more floral, aromatic, and approachable, with fruitier, sometimes less intense flavours compared to the often-stricter, more structured Sancerre.
Price and Status: Sancerre is a "celebrity" appellation with higher production costs, often costing significantly more than Menetou-Salon which provides a similar, high-quality alternative, and is often considered a better value option.
Menetou is approx. 20% the size of Sancerre
