What do you do when you have 90 year old vines at high altitude (600-700 metres ASL)?  You make a single varietal Garnacha that overachieves!
Proelio Garnacha 2023 is made with Garnacha from 90 year old vines, all in the higher vineyards of the Alto Najerill region. 

It's a medium bodied wine, with an elegant cherry red colour. On the nose it shows intense minerality and fresh red fruit notes - and white pepper (quite common in the area, we are told!).  On the palate it is lively , fresh, fruity and shows great complexity. 
It finishes long and fresh, with the fruit remaining throughout. 

We queried how their very old Garnacha vines always seemed to give great fresh & fruity wines, and were told 'the vineyard - deep sandy loams with rocky and ferrous components with an accumulation of clay at 3m (deep) - it always produces elegant, refined and fresh wines'       That's us told so!

Which highlights the point that the first thing that stood out when we first tasted Proelio's Garnacha was the freshness.  Their Vinedos Viejos Garnacha still sells out the quickest!
