Considered by many if not most as the best 1er Cru 'climat' in Puligny, Les Folatières always impresses. While some prefer the slightly weightier 'Les Pucelles' or the fraction richer Champ-Canet (Sauzet's Champ-Canet is always astounding), Les Folatières seems to have a higher recognition factor* amongst the wine consuming public (based on our 40 years in retail!) 

We have always liked/loved the Les Folatières from J. L. Chavy. From the first visit to his cellars, his wines have always impressed with their brightness and clarity, the pure expression of terroir and also their early accessibility - very important when they sell so quickly that no older vintages are available!

The current vintage is the Puligny Montrachet Les Folatières 1er Cru J. L. Chavy 2022. 
The 2022 Vintage for white wines in Burgundy is 'extra ordinary' according to both Wine Advocate (96 Points) & Wine Spectator (95 points) & Decanter (excellent).

The grapes come from two very different plots of land which Jean-Louis blends to produce this lovely wine. 

It is initially tight and controlled but opens quickly to offer peach and apricot fruit tinged with an oak spice element and a tiny saline hint.  On the palate it is well-balanced with a wonderful complexity as it opens up. It is fresh and vibrant throughout with great richness and depth with intense minerality and it finishes with softness and a lingering spice. 

A real treat which is drinking superbly now but will continue to improve for the next few years.
