Sancerre 2024 Jean Colin, Loire, France

Sale price€30,00

Minimum order: 6 bottles. We sell in cases of 6 or 12 to ensure you get the best deal, best price and best service.

This Sancerre appears pale golden in colour with upfront citrus and tropical fruits aromas combined with minerality and hints on the nose.
The palate is full, fresh and delicate with passion fruit and zesty lemon, somewhat chalky with a lively acidity, the finish is long with hints of stony minerality.

With vineyards spread over 3 areas on the South East of the Sancerre appellation (Thauvenay, Ménétréol and Vinon), on the typical flinty and chalky/clayey soils that are the benchmark of good Sancerre, currently holding a HVE3 certificate whilst converting to full organic practices, Jean Colin wines offer real quality at a great price, and are improving all the time!   One to get behind we think!

All our wines from Jean Colin have a wax seal over the cork so they look great! But a tip! Don't try to cut the wax off - just screw your (quality) corkscrew/waiter's friend through the wax and into the cork - the wax will crack and fall off! Too much work if you try anything else!

What is the difference between Sancerre & Pouilly Fume?
Well, they are 10km apart on the map, with Sancerre on the left bank of the Loire river and Pouilly on the right bank. Highlighting the differences requires more than a paragraph here so suffice to say:
Sancerre typically has a lean body and vibrant acidity, with refreshing and crisp citrusy flavours alongside notes of green grass.
Pouilly-Fumé, on the other hand, boasts a medium body, with flavours leaning towards more stone fruits and apples, sometimes with floral or smoky notes.
Their differing flavour profiles derive from several factors, including the type of soil and winemaking decisions.
The soil in Pouilly is generally more flinty, giving a fuller 'smoky' nuance, hence the 'Fumé' label.
We shouldn't forget Menetou Salon, Quincy etc!! And that Sancerre also produces Red & Rosé wines ....  Maybe I will write a book!

*This is a bug bear of ours!  We frequently get asked for the most recent vintage (ie 2025 in this case) as if that is a guarantee of quality, when all it guarantees is a younger wine - that hasn't had time to settle down or open up!  While not suggesting  that Sauvignon Blanc needs 10 years aging etc, good wines can be too young etc. The 2024 vintage is drinking perfectly now, thank you very much, and will continue to offer great value over the summer!  And yes, before you say it, our Pouilly Fumé is 2025 vintage - cos we sold all the 2024!
