A 'Special Cuvée' red Sancerre for something extra! This Sancerre 'Pauline' Rouge 2022 - called after the current owner's Great Grandmother who founded the Estate - is vinified in oak barrels as it was in the old days!
The Pinot grapes come mostly from a tiny plot 'Désert du P'tit Bannon' in the village of Vinon (about 5km south of the town of Sancerre itself). The grapes are night harvested and de-stemmed and, after fermentation is complete, it is aged for 10 months in new (local) Oak 300L barrels.
On the nose there are strong notes of ripe fruits and this carries through to the palate with dominant full flavours of ripe dark fruits (Blackcurrant & Blackberry), with a nice concentration and fine intensity. The tannins are elegant, precise and well-integrated - the finish is clean and long. This is a full bodied wine and can handle more robust foods that the standard Sancerre Rouge, such as Game and/or mushroom dishes

2022 in Loire was a great vintage - it beat expectations hands down! With a succession of heat waves (no disease in the vineyards!) and with rain at the right time just before the harvest, they ended up with what they described as 'fine balance, perfect condition, beautiful colour extraction, nice level of acidity' Not bad, eh?
