Pico de Luyas 2020 is a 100% Tinta Fina del País (Tempranillo) from vineyards at between 800m-850m altitude on soil of limestone & clay - the best aspects of Ribera del Duero!

It is hand picked with a double selection (in the vineyard and again in the winery) with the malolactic fermentation in new barrels, with daily battonage. All this helps to increase complexity and body and helps improve the rich aromas. It is aged in French Oak barrels, a mix of 225 litre and 500 litres ( 225 L is what we consider a standard barrel).
But enough of the nerdy, technical stuff - what does it taste like?

Pico shows in the glass with a dark, cherry colour but bright! It looks clean and bright despite the deep colour and offers great intensity on the nose - big rich black fruit (think blackberries & cherries) and a touch of liquorice. 
In the mouth it is big and powerful, rich flavours but incredibly smooth. The integrated acidity appears perfectly balanced with the alcohol (very important in a wine at 15% Alc Vol).
The lovely round fat tannins help the long and lingering finish.

TRUS is an acronym for Earth, Oak, Grape and Sun (in Spanish! - Tierra, Roble, Uva y Sol) 

Penin Guide says that it retails at €66.00 in Spain. They are normally 40-50% cheaper due to Duty & VAT so it's a steal here in Ireland!
